Isaiah 50:4-9a
What is Church?

Isaiah teaches Lutheran theology... When struggle and difficulty surround us, in the midst of many voices around us, we hear God’s voice and stick to that. Human nature is pretty consistent: we know that when there are other voices, we will follow those. But as Lutherans we come to church to be redirected, to be accepted in spite of ourselves, not disgraced and shamed, and to be set back on the path. We turn to Jesus who is safe and pure and true. As Lutherans, when we face adversaries in the way, we can confront them with courage because of Jesus. We come to church not to escape the struggles of the world, but to face them together with faith. Church is a place to be sustained in our weariness.
