The garden was envisioned as a way to reduce food insecurity among our neighbors in LaVale and Cumberland. Over the growing seasons since its inception it has become a way to build relationships in the community, including members of many walks of life and many different experiences in the growing process. In 2020, the garden received a Domestic Hunger grant from DE-MD Synod to expand footprint of the garden to include a fully accessible section with a view to spreading appreciation for sustainable gardening for upcoming generations of folks.
